Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to a residential structure fire in the 200 block of Berry Ridge Lane early Saturday morning. Emergency Communications dispatched the call at 2:33 a.m.

When crews arrived at 2:37 a.m., they were met with heavy flames from a large two-story home. The fire also threatened the neighboring house with its siding melting and smoking. Crews positioned the initial hose line between the two homes to prevent further damage to nearby structures. Additional units arrived at 2:40 a.m. and began an interior attack using multiple hoses.

At 2:58 a.m., conditions inside the home became unsafe, and the incident commander ordered all interior crews to evacuate. Firefighters then transitioned to a defensive strategy, using large master streams to control the fire, which had reached the roof. Crews re-entered the home at 3:25 a.m. to continue fighting the fire from the inside. The fire was brought under control by 3:53 a.m.

A dog was rescued from the house and received emergency medical care from paramedics and firefighters. The animal was returned to its owner and is reportedly doing well. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

Suffolk Police provided scene and traffic control, while the Fire Marshal investigated the cause and origin of the fire. No assistance from the American Red Cross was requested.
