Iris Regina Jones, 69, beloved daughter of the late Ernest, Sr. and Josephine Jones, peacefully departed this life on August 22, 2024, to be with the King. Iris was a lifelong resident of Suffolk, VA where she was a faithful member of New Paul’s Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance. She served in many capacities to include Trustee, building fund president, nurse, Sunday school teacher, choir director, custodian, kitchen aid, hospitality worker, usher, and events coordinator. She aided the late Pastor Skinner, serving her in any way she could. She was a proud graduate of Norfolk State University and would proudly shout “Behold the Green and Gold” when asked about her college years. She lived a life dedicated to serving others, including her work of over 40 years at Sentara Obici Hospital, from which she retired as a Registered Nurse. The greatest testament of Iris’s love and dedication is witnessed in her only child, Courtnei Danielle Jones and grandson, Kaiden Lee Jones, the embodiment of all Iris adored.

Iris was a woman who loved God and lived according to what she believed was in accordance with His Word. She lovingly cared for the seniors of her family and community, honoring those who came before her. In her free time she could be found studying her Bible, chatting with her family & friends, cooking, roaming grocery store aisles with the sales paper in hand, or spending time with Courtnei and Kaiden. She also enjoyed singing, thrifting, fishing, cutting her grass, and gardening and was sure to plant her tomatoes and okra each year.

Iris lived a simple, yet very full life. All her nieces and nephews adored her and only with much resistance and reluctance shared her with others who continuously adopted her as their own. She was as stern as she was loving, and she taught many lessons by the way she lived.

While Iris has completed this part of her journey, there are many left here to mourn. Please remember her daughter Courtnei, grandson Kaiden, siblings: Tony (Terri) Jones, Camilla Hunter, Ernest Jones, Jr., Sheila (Christian) Bennett, Jeffery (Mary) Jones, Clayton (Sonya) Jones, Constance (John) Horton, Bridgett (Phillip) Smith; aunt, Margaret Jones, and her multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in your prayers. She has fought the good fight, she has finished her race, she has kept the faith. It may not seem like it to those whose hearts are heavy, but in the words of our beloved Iris, “All is well.”
