Gary Duke Parker, 64, of Suffolk, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, August 4, 2024. The son of the late Catherine Duke Parker and Elliott Bruce Parker, he was predeceased in life by his childhood sweetheart and wife of 37 years, Juanita (Nita) Fanny Parker.
In December of 2022, after 42 years and 2 months of service, Parker retired from the Suffolk Police Department. At the time of his retirement, he was the longest tenured member of the department. He was selected “Officer of the Year” in 2005.
He is survived by his daughter, Brynn Elizabeth Parker; his son, Christian Duke Parker; and his granddaughter, Quinn Marie Lassiter, whom she fondly called Ry-Ry or Grampy Gramps. He is also survived by his sisters, Linda Warren (Russell) and Peggi Parker-Butler (Gary) and their families, a brother-in-law, Marvin Lee Fanny, Jr., his father-in-law, Marvin L. Fanny, Sr., Polly Riddick and several other cousins, and a host of nieces and nephews.
Gary will always be remembered by all who knew and loved him for his generosity, compassion, and willingness to help others.
Visitation will be held from 2pm to 4pm on Sunday, August 11 at Parr Funeral Home. Services will be conducted by Rev. Dr. Thurman Hayes, Jr. on Monday, August 12 at 11am at the funeral home.
