With the recent retirement of Sheriff E.C. Harris, a special election has been added to the Nov. 5 ballot to fill the remainder of Harris’ term ending Dec. 31, 2025. 

Harris announced his retirement at the end of June after serving as sheriff since 2017 and over 40 years of law enforcement service. Deputy Sheriff David Miles was recently appointed to fill the role as sheriff until the election takes place.

Qualifying for this special election ends on Friday, Aug. 16, at 5 p.m.
