Thomas Robert Griffin, Sr., 73, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Seward Griffin and Mary Virginia Jenkins Drewery.

Tommie was born in Isle of Wight County and was a resident of Suffolk and Isle of Wight for his entire life. He was raised a farmer’s kid, working alongside his Dad on the family farm. He began his working life as a Teacher and then worked for Smith & Douglas, which later became Royster Clark, in chemicals and fertilizer sales and service. He raised chickens for Perdue, ran a convenience store and a fertilizer business, and was a peanut broker for Birdsong and Hancock Peanut Company. He later worked as a financial planner, helping numerous school employees in many school systems retire with a solid plan to benefit themselves in their golden years. He coached little league for many years, was active in both the Isle of Wight and Holland communities, and was a longtime member of Holland Baptist Church and Woodland United Methodist Church. Tommie was a graduate of NC State and loved the Wolfpack. He was a member of Wyanoke Hunt Club and Griffin Hunt Club. In his later years, Tommie loved to travel with his wife Becky and play golf. He enjoyed beach music, dancing and visiting Myrtle Beach and would go to all kinds of live music concerts whenever he could. Tommie also loved to sing and play piano and guitar. He loved spending time with friends and family and visiting White Lake in North Carolina.

He is survived by his wife, Rebecca; two sons, Bobby (Laura) and Michael; three grandchildren, Gage, Chloe, and Waylon; four stepchildren, Amy, Jennifer, Jimmy, and Vicki, and their families. He is also survived by two sisters, Dee Steinert (Cary) and Brenda Hundley (Mike); brother, Brian (Kelly), as well as nieces, Leanne and Meredith; and nephew, Mark and their families.

A funeral service will be held at Woodland United Methodist Church in Isle of Wight County on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 2 PM with a viewing starting at 1 PM. A reception to follow services in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to the ALS Association or the Hospice Association of your choice. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Downtown Suffolk Chapel is serving the family.
