Phillip “Jim” Holmes Pearce, 88, passed away July 8, 2024. He was born in Hopewell, VA the son of the late Joseph and Nora Pearce. He was predeceased by his brothers, Edward, Clarence, and Alexander “Buster” Brooks. Jim retired after 27 years as the meat department manager of Safeway Stores, Inc. He was a former member of the Bethlehem Ruritan Club. He was a former member and Deacon at First Christian Church in Hopewell, VA. Jim was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church since 1974 where he served as a Deacon and was active in the chancel choir for over 40 years. He was a member of the Taylor-Brittle Sunday School Class. He volunteered for over 25 years with Suffolk Meals on Wheels. In his free time, he enjoyed music, gardening, woodworking, and fishing. He was a faithful fan of the Dallas Cowboys for over 50 years.
Jim is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elizabeth “Susie” B. Pearce; children, James “Jay” H. Pearce and wife, Jacqueline, Elizabeth “Beth” L. Otlowski and husband, Richard; grandchildren, Robert L. Pearce, Karen Anistasiou and husband, Chris, Ashley E. Mitchell and husband, Spencer, and Brooke I. Otlowski; great grandchildren, Riley and Hayden Poole, Mason and Marley Mitchell, Liam and Milo Anistasiou, and Blake Pearce; sisters-in-law, Bertha Elliott and husband, Clarence, and Henrietta Brooks; niece and nephews; and special friend, Suzi Bowen Pearce.
A graveside service will be held Friday, July 12, 2024 at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery with Rev. Rob Slingluff officiating.
