Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney Narendra R. Pleas and her office need you to help Suffolk kids start their school year right.
The Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office will host its Back-to-School Supply Drive for Suffolk Students from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, July 20, at the 6229 College Drive Walmart Supercenter. Attendees can expect the supply drive to have a table and tent set up outside the entrance with the Suffolk Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office emblem, with staff present to take donations. Pleas says that they are looking for “anything” school supply-wise that residents are able to bring.
“There’s nothing that we will not accept,” Pleas said. “The reason we chose Walmart is [because] people shop at Walmart all the time and it’s the back-to-school time and it’s just a common place for people to go to get their school supplies.”
Pleas says that both monetary or supply donations will be accepted from residents.
“What we do if we get monetary donations, we go and immediately spend that money and buy the things while we’re there,” she said.
On an overall supply goal, Pleas that she is simply happy with anyone’s generosity.
“…Whether I set a $5,000 goal or $500 goal, if people are giving from their heart, we’re happy with what they do. Also when we’re there, we contribute as well,” she said. “I contribute my own funds to buying supplies, I know my staff does as well. So there’s a mix in that bucket of money that comes from our office, and I don’t ask them to, that’s who they are. They’re giving people…”
Likewise, Pleas expressed the importance of how getting children to the right start can help prevent them from coming to her office.
“My goal, always, is to not see people at my work. If we can stop that, then we’re happy,” Pleas said.
