Jerry Ray Thompson, 81, of Suffolk, Va passed away on May 8, 2024. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Thompson, seven siblings, and his beloved wife, Shirley D. Thompson. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many.
He was a graduate of Maury High School in Norfolk and served time in the Army Reserves. He retired from Lipton Tea Plant as a mechanic after 30 years. When he wasn’t working, you could find him in the garden or working on cars; which he had a deep passion for. Jerry enjoyed drag racing, watching Nascar, and being an automobile enthusiast especially towards Studebakers. He was resilient man that always remained positive even when the situation got tough.
Jerry is survived by his son, Shawn Thompson (Jennifer); daughter, Adrienne Caldwell (James); granddaughters, Summer Thompson and Sydney Morgan; sister, Alice Moore; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, May 17, 2024 a 1PM at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home, Downtown Suffolk Chapel officiated by Rev. Michael Halley. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116-7023.
