SFD battles residential fire Friday morning

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the 100 Block of Eagle Lane for a residential structure fire at approximately 10:30 a.m. Friday morning.
Upon arrival, crews found heavy fire and smoke showing from a single-story residential structure.
Two elderly occupants were evacuating as firefighters arrived. Crews battled the blaze while paramedics treated the occupants. Crews conducted a search and found no additional occupants.
The fire was brought under control at 11:06 a.m. The two occupants were transported to area hospitals with minor to moderate injuries. However, one occupant’s injuries have since been downgraded to serious, and one dog died in the fire.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
