Suffolk police shooting leaves suspect seriously injured

Suffolk, Virginia – On Thursday, April 4, 2024, at approximately 9:39 p.m., Suffolk Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle on St. James Avenue near W. Washington Street. During the stop, the vehicle fled towards one of the officers, prompting an officer to fire several shots, striking the driver. Police then pursued the vehicle to the 100 block of Brewer Avenue.
The injured suspect received immediate medical attention from Suffolk Police before being treated by Suffolk Fire & Rescue at the scene and then transported to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.
In the meantime, officers apprehended two additional suspects nearby and continued the search for a fourth suspect.
The Suffolk Police Officer involved has been placed on administrative leave while both criminal and administrative investigations take place. Currently, no further information is available as the incident remains under investigation.
