Two-vehicle crash leaves one in critical condition

Suffolk, Virginia — Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police responded to the 2800 Block of Pruden Blvd — near the intersection of Northfield Dr.— for a two-vehicle crash with one vehicle on fire. The incident was dispatched by Suffolk Emergency Communications Dispatch Center at 12:42 p.m.
When crews arrived at 12:44 p.m., they found one vehicle well involved in a fire and a second vehicle in a field. The vehicle on fire had left Pruden Blvd, collided with a tree, and then ignited. Two occupants (drivers) of the vehicles were injured, and both were outside their vehicle upon the arrival of fire and rescue. Engine 6 extinguished the vehicle fire, while Medic 3 administered advanced life support to the drivers until additional medics arrived. Due to the critical condition of one occupant, Nightingale Air Ambulance was summoned to airlift one of the patients. That driver sustained serious injuries and remains in critical condition at an area hospital. The other driver was transported by Medic 6 to an area hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. As of 2:45 p.m., Pruden Blvd is closed to traffic between Rt. 58 and Northfield Dr. and is expected to remain closed until 3:15 p.m.
Suffolk Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
