On Monday, April 8, 2024, following Suffolk Public Schools’ Spring Break, parts of the United States will witness a total solar eclipse as the moon moves between Earth and the Sun. While Virginia won’t experience totality, there will be an 80% to 90% sun obstruction at peak eclipse times, estimated between 2:00 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. Suffolk Public Schools will maintain regular schedules during this event. Norfolk Public Schools recently announced hybrid learning for that day.
Directly viewing the sun without proper eye protection can harm vision. The risks of eye injury during the eclipse are heightened and should be emphasized.
