City of Suffolk names new Director of Finance

Suffolk, Virginia — Suffolk City Manager Al Moor announced the appointment of Charles Meek as Director of Finance effective today, Friday, March 22, 2024.
Charles Meek joined the City in 2007 as a Senior Administrative Analyst and has held the roles of Budget and Strategic Planning Manager, Assistant Director of Finance, and Interim Budget Director on two occasions, most recently holding the interim position since October 2023.
“Charles Meek brings over 22 years of local government finance experience to the role,” Moor said. “Before his time with Suffolk, he served in various roles as Assistant to County Administrator in Isle of Wight County, Grants/Economic Director for the Town of Shenandoah, and as a Community Development Specialist in the private sector.”
Since joining the City of Suffolk, Charles Meek has focused on coordinating the City’s annual operating and capital budget and the capital improvements program, revenue and expenditure projections, grant management, bond issuance and equipment financing, and strategic planning.
Meek holds a Master’s of Public Administration from James Madison University and a Bachelor’s of Arts in history and Political Science from Bridgewater College.
