Safety threat at Lakeland High School prompts evacuation

Update — Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office advises that a thorough building sweep was carried out with assistance from Virginia State Police, United States Coast Guard and Portsmouth Police K-9 units and no threat was found. No
injuries were reported. The building received an all-clear at 11:43 a.m. and students are staff are permitted back into the building. Suffolk Public School has advised that the school will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. today, Wednesday, March 6, 2024.

 

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue are currently investigating a bomb threat at Lakeland High School, which occurred on March 6, 2024. Suffolk Police, Suffolk Fire & Rescue, and the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office responded to the scene at around 10:08 a.m. following notification from school administrators. No injuries have been reported at this time. As a precautionary measure, students have been evacuated from the premises, and a thorough building sweep is underway.

In an email to parents/guardians, Suffolk Public Schools announced that students at Lakeland High School would be dismissed early as a result of buses not being able to access school grounds and students and staff “subject to the inclement weather.”
