SPD and SFD investigate bomb threat at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire and Rescue are investigating a bomb threat at Col. Fred Cherry Middle School, which took place on Monday, Jan. 22, 2024. Suffolk Fire and Rescue, the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office, and Suffolk Police responded to the scene at approximately 11:50 a.m. following notification from school administrators. No injuries were reported. The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s office confirmed no
threats were present at the school at approximately 12:30 p.m.
As a precautionary measure, students have been evacuated from the premises, and a thorough building sweep is being carried out with the assistance of Virginia State Police, Portsmouth Police, Portsmouth Sheriff’s Office, and U.S. Coast Guard K9 units.
