Man sentenced in 2022 South Saratoga Street murder

The man who pleaded guilty to the 2022 murder of Caleb Pittman was sentenced on multiple charges, including second-degree murder, to 39 years and nine months on Friday, Jan 12, 2024, in Suffolk Circuit Court.
Preston Davis IV, of Suffolk, was arrested on Sept 7, 2022, in connection with the Sept 4, 2022, murder of Pittman. Pittman was found between buildings in the 300 block of South Saratoga Street when police received reports of a shooting in the area. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
SPD received a call on Wednesday, Sept 7, 2022, from a citizen reporting a female citizen being actively assaulted by a male subject inside a vehicle. According to an SPD news release, officers responded to the area of Pitchkettle Road and located the vehicle.
The officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle, but it refused to stop. While the officers pursued the vehicle, police said the female subject jumped from the moving vehicle.
The vehicle continued to elude police until the driver exited and attempted to flee on foot. Officers quickly apprehended the driver,
The malicious wounding charge was the result of Davis inflicting injuries on victim Amber Salmon “with the intent to maim, disfigure, disable or kill” her during the Sept 4, 2022 incident, according to the indictment.
