The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory until 11 p.m. on Jan. 9, 2024.
The advisory in effect for Suffolk, Surry and Isle of Wight says up to one foot of inundation above ground level in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways may occur. Shallow flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline, resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one foot of water above ground level in low-lying, vulnerable areas. Some roads and low-lying properties, including parking lots, parks, and lawns near the waterfront, will experience shallow flooding.
If travel is required, allow extra time as some roads may be closed. Do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth. Take necessary action to protect flood-prone property.
A wind advisory is also in effect until 1 a.m. Jan. 10, 2024, for portions of Northeast North Carolina and east central, east and southeast Virginia.
Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down, and power outages may occur.
