According to a release from SPD, at approximately 11:44 a.m. on Dec. 30, the 911 center received a report of a disturbance involving an individual with a weapon in the 6200 block of Oakglen Dr.
According to the Suffolk Police, officers responded to the scene and encountered a juvenile female wielding weapons upon arrival. Despite multiple attempts by a Suffolk Police officer to de-escalate the situation, the juvenile subject approached the officer in a threatening manner with the weapons. In response, another officer discharged their firearm, striking the subject. The injured individual received immediate medical attention from Suffolk Police until Suffolk Fire & Rescue arrived, who then treated the subject on the scene before transporting her to a nearby hospital.
Although the exact age was not provided, Media and Community Relations Director Jennifer Moore says the juvenile is a teenager. Moore also confirmed the teen was wielding two weapons but did not specify what type of weapons.
The Suffolk Police Officer has been placed on administrative leave pending a criminal and administrative investigation by the Suffolk Police Department. The name of the officer has not yet been released, and it is not at this time if the department will release the name, according to Moore.
This incident is developing and will be updated as more information is released.
