North Carolina mother indicted by a Suffolk Grand Jury for infant son’s death

The North Carolina mother arrested on May 9 for the death of her infant son was indicted by a grand jury on Wednesday, Dec. 13.
Taina Sanford is accused of leaving her 5-month-old son in a car for an unknown period of time.
Through the investigation, Suffolk Police said in a June 21 news release, they were able to determine that the infant had been left in a car for an unknown period of time. After an extensive investigation, it was determined the mother of the child, Taina Sanford, 21, of Elizabeth City, North Carolina, knowingly left the child in the vehicle unattended while she worked.
Sanford was indicted on charges of second-degree murder, child abuse, and child cruelty. According to the Virginia Judiciary Online Case Information System, she is scheduled for an arraignment hearing on Dec. 18. She is currently held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
