Brenda Holland Mansfield, 65, went to be with her Lord on Dec. 9, 2023. She was born on April 14, 1958, to the late Flora Bland and Joseph C. Holland.

Brenda graduated from Nansemond-Suffolk Academy in 1976 and went on to earn her degree from Elon College. After college she began working at Community Electric Cooperative where she spent 43 years, retiring in June 2023. She was a member of Western Branch Baptist Church where she served in the choir and WMU. Her greatest accomplishment was being “BB” to her two grandchildren.

At her retirement, Brenda quoted herself as being “a fairly simple person.” She enjoyed bargain shopping, trips to sporting events and the beach with her family, crafting, gardening and Thursday night dinners at Chick-fil-A.

She is survived by her husband of 41 years, Cary P. Mansfield; children, Stefanie Turner (Andrew) of Pinehurst, N.C. and Casey Hedrick (Robert) of Suffolk; grandchildren, Holden Hedrick and Holland Turner; sisters, Pamela Miller (Mark) and Wanda Rector (John); brothers, Joseph “Joey” Holland Jr. (Pam) and Adrian Holland (Lucy); and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 15, at Western Branch Baptist Church, 6952 Old Myrtle Road officiated by Pastor Micah Voight and Pastor Tim Rawls. Burial will follow at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens in Suffolk. A visitation will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 14, at the R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Suffolk.
