Mrs. Merial Celestine Dildy Mitchell passed away, peacefully, in Baltimore, Maryland on Nov. 19, 2023, and received her eternal rest. She was born on March 18, 1927, in Gates, N.C. to the late  Aubrey T. Dildy and Helen L. Rooks Dildy. Mrs. Mitchell was an active member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church and the Chums Club, a public service organization. She worked for the Farmers’ Home Administration for many years and because of her dedication, many families were able to acquire loans to become homeowners.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur T. Mitchell, Jr. and her son Aubrey Djuan Mitchell.

Mrs. Mitchell is survived by her children the Rev. Gayle Mitchell Boyd Briscoe of Baltimore, Maryland, the Rev. Adrienne Thomasine Mitchell Vaughan, of Midlothian and Arthur Thomas Mitchell III (Rudy), of Baltimore, Maryland; two grandchildren, Major E. Boyd Jr., of Baltimore, Maryland and Kristen Danielle Vaughan (Tshilumba Ngandu) of Wilmette, Illinois; four loving great-grandchildren, several nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

She will be remembered for her wise counsel, her kind willing spirit and her love for God and His word.

Ms. Mitchell’s visitation will take place from 3 until 6 p.m. on Thursday at T.E. Cooke-Overton Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, Dec. 15, at Metropolitan Baptist

Church and she will be laid to rest at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
