Throughout the life of the Cheer Fund, donations started slowly and snowballed closer to the goal. This year has been quite the exception. As of this writing, the total contributions for 2023 are at $21,623,59. This has been, by all accounts, the highest to-date total in many years.
In that total, there have been many Memorial donations, along with several local businesses and civic groups that have come forward to share their generosity, and the Cheer Fund committee hopes to see that trend continue as December approaches.
With all that said, this year’s goal is $50,000, so there is quite a ways to go.
There are many stories of how the fund has helped those throughout the years, and those stories will likely continue. However, the fund still needs donations to reach its goal.
Anyone interested in donating to the Cheer Fund can do so by bringing a check to the Suffolk News-Herald office at 157 N. Main St. or sending your check to;
