According to a news release from Suffolk Fire and Rescue, firefighters responded early to a commercial structure fire at the Arbors at Shoulder Hill in the 5600 block of Shoulders Hill Road early Wednesday morning. A 911 call was received at 4:24 a.m., with the first units arriving on the scene at 4:31 a.m.
“Engine 5, Engine 25, Ladder 11, and Battalion 2 found smoke and fire showing from a balcony on the second and third floor of the four story-apartment style assisted living facility,” the release said. “The fire was quickly extinguished, and occupants were removed from the apartments near the fire. Smoke did enter several apartments, but fire extension to the interior of the building was minimal. All residents near the fire were evacuated to the lobby, and residents whose apartments were in the opposite wing of the building were sheltered in place. All apartments were searched, and smoke was removed from the interior of the building on all affected floors.”
Fire Marshals are investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The fire was placed under control at 4:54 a.m., with all smoke removed by 5:15 a.m. Two apartments sustained damage from smoke, fire and water and property managers are assisting the occupants to have housing. No injuries to occupants or firefighters.
