Minor injuries reported after school bus accident in Suffolk

Suffolk Police and Suffolk Fire & Rescue responded to the scene of a single-vehicle accident involving a Suffolk Public School bus on Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, according to—a press release from the city.
Suffolk Emergency Communications was notified at 9:24 a.m. advising of the accident in the 1400 block of Cypress Chapel Rd. It involved an occupied school bus.
“Suffolk Fire and Rescue personnel assessed, treated, and transported the driver of the bus and twelve school-aged children who were occupying the bus to area hospitals,” the release said. “All injuries are considered minor and non-life-threatening at this time. The bus was en route to Southwestern Elementary School when the accident occurred.”
Cypress Chapel Road was closed in both directions at the time of this release.
Suffolk Public Schools also confirmed in a statement to the media.
“This morning, a Suffolk Public Schools bus en route to Southwestern Elementary School was involved in a single-vehicle accident near Cypress Chapel Road,” the statement read. “Suffolk Fire and Rescue immediately arrived on the scene. No major injuries were reported. 12 students and the driver were transported to local hospitals. Parents of students involved in the accident were notified of the incident by school personnel.”
The investigation into the cause of the accident is ongoing. There is no further information available at this time.
