Martha Elizabeth Gizara, 74, of the 500 block of Cypress Cove Lane passed away on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2023, in her home. She was born on May 24, 1949, in Florida and was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Hardy Jenkins and Mary Lou Jenkins and a brother, Jack Jenkins. 

She was a member of Good News Baptist Church for over 40 years, where she worked with children in Sunday School and in the nursery.

She leaves behind to cherish her memories her high school sweetheart and husband of 54 years, Gene Gizara; two sons, David Gizara and wife, Eileen of Corapeake, N.C. and Joseph Gizara and wife, Sunshine of Courtland; a granddaughter and namesake, Elizabeth Grace Gizara; her three loving sisters, Linda Clapp, Ethel Jenkins and husband Wayne and Debbie Mills; a special sister-in-law Annette McGrath and a host of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 12, at Good News Baptist Church in Chesapeake. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private in Albert G. Horton Jr. Veterans Cemetery. Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel is handling these arrangements.
