One injured in Saturday apartment fire

Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded Saturday evening, Oct. 7, 2023, to a reported commercial structure fire in the 200 block of Kilby Shores Drive., according to a news release from the city.
Emergency Communications was contacted at 6:25 p.m. and the first unit arrived on scene at 6:30 p.m.
“The first units on the scene reported smoke showing from the front and back of the structure,” the release said. “Upon entering the structure, it was determined that the fire occurred in the kitchen and was extinguished by the resident prior to the arrival of fire crews. The rest of the apartment sustained smoke damage. Minimal smoke damage occurred in the adjacent apartments.”
According to the release, one adult occupant sustained serious burns to an extremity and was ground transported to SNGH. No injuries to firefighters. The fire is under investigation by the Suffolk Department of Fire & Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office.
