Suffolk Fire and Rescue units responded to a residential structure fire in the 5800 block of Greenwood Road Wednesday morning, according to a media release.
“Engine 7 arrived on scene at 10:11 am to find fire and smoke showing from the rear of the single-story home,” the release said. “Crews forced entry and performed a primary search. The fire was found to have extended into the attic space, and after an aggressive attack was extinguished at 10:28 a.m.”
The primary search discovered that no occupants were home, but two dogs did not survive the fire. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is leading an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
