Roy Steven Black Sr., 80, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2023, surrounded by family. He was born on Sept. 20, 1942, in Chase City to the late Robert “RH” and Mary “Gladys” Black. Roy was an Army Veteran and the Owner of Virginia Auction Company in Suffolk. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his four siblings, Sandra, Barbara, Evelyn and James.
Roy is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Janice Lippard Black; two sons, Roy Steven Black II and Stewart Wayne Black; two brothers, Ronnie and Tommy; six grandchildren, Brittany, Breanna, Emilie, Isabelle, Gabriella and Olivia; five great-grandchildren, Brayden, Hailey, Elaina, Tucker and Virginia; and many extended family members and friends. He will be truly missed.
A visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 6, at the Suffolk Sturtevant Funeral Home, Bennetts Creek Chapel, 2690 Bridge Road, #17. Please join family and friends for a casual celebration of life from 6 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at “The Second Floor” located at 136 S. Main St. There will be heavy hors d’oeuvres, drinks, music and fellowship.
