A Wednesday afternoon fire at a Progress Road warehouse damaged a room containing the electrical boxes for the facility.
Units with Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded to the commercial structure fire at the business and warehouse in the 1200 block of Progress Road Wednesday afternoon, according to a press release from Chief Michael Barakey.
“Firefighters found moderate smoke in the business’ large warehouse,” Barakey said in the release. “The business was occupied at the time of the fire and all employees and personnel evacuated safely. The fire was contained to the service drop and electrical service room in the warehouse of the business. Moderate smoke filled the warehouse and once the power to the building was secured by Dominion Virginia Power, crews were able to start to ventilate the smoke from the warehouse.”
Barakey also stated fire damage was contained to the main power feed and a room that contained panel boxes.
“No fire extension was found outside of the main power feed and the room that contained the power panel boxes,” Barakey said in the release. “The fire was placed under-control at 4:30 p.m. No injuries to firefighters or employees are reported.”
The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office is currently investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The fire is considered electrical in nature and is not considered suspicious, according to the release.
