Fire at convenience store considered suspicious

Fire crews responded early Friday morning to a commercial structure fire at a Bodega style convenience store in the 600 block of County Street.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded after being dispatched at 1:43 a.m. by the city’s emergency communications.
The first unit arrived on scene at 1:50 a.m. According to a fire department news release Engine 3, Ladder 3, and Medic 3 found fire showing from the rear of the single story bodega. The store was unoccupied at the time of the fire. The fire was attacked by Engine 3’s crew while Ladder 3’s crews performed a search of the store. Crews isolated the fire to the rear of the store. The fire was placed under-control at 2 a.m. No injuries to firefighters, occupants, or customers.
The Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire. The fire is considered suspicious and anyone with information into the circumstances surrounding the fire is asked to call the Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office at 757-515-4550. Fire Marshals 6 and 7 are the lead investigators.
Thirteen Suffolk Fire and Rescue units responded to the call, along with Fire Marshals 6 and 7.
