Officials said the initial investigation determined a bedroom fire occurred earlier in the morning, causing moderate smoke and fire damage to the bedroom and smoke damage throughout the single story detached residence.

The fire was extinguished by occupants and then the child was driven to a local hospital by the adult male.  The child was transferred to another local hospital and remains in the hospital in critical condition.

The Suffolk Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate the fire, its origin and cause, as well as the circumstances surrounding the fire.

The release said there is no further information available at this time.
