Suffolk Fire and Rescue and Suffolk Police Department, in partnership with Suffolk Public Schools and Camp Community College, are conducting a multi-agency active shooter training exercise Thursday, Aug. 17.
The simulation is set to run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the campuses of Lakeland High School and Camp Community College.
In order to avoid any confusion, the Fire and Rescue and SPD are notifying the public ahead of time.
In a news release, officials said the training exercise will focus on emergency response to an active shooter incident on the campuses and is being staged by SFR and SPD in collaboration with local emergency responders.
“It will involve a simulation of the law enforcement and first responder response plan for an active shooter and will help assure a coordinated, timely and effective response and recovery in the event of a major incident,” officials said in the release. “Significant law enforcement and fire department officials will be present during the exercise.”
The exercise is closed to the general public. Agencies participating in the exercise include SPD, Fire and Rescue, SPS, Camp Community College and Sentara Obici Hospital.
