June Manlove Barrett died on July 21, 2023. A lifelong resident of Suffolk, she was the daughter of Harold James and Edna Nelms Manlove. She is also predeceased by her brother, James Manlove.
Mrs. Barrett was born on June 16, 1933. She was a graduate of Suffolk High School, Class of 1951, and Longwood College, Class of 1955. Mrs. Barrett was an educator for 30 years and taught in Driver, Holland, Suffolk City Schools, Southampton and Franklin school systems. Mrs. Barrett was an active member of Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Suffolk Historical Society, the Colonial Dames of America and was a Master Gardener in the Kilby Garden Club. Mrs. Barrett was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church where her family attended for many years.
Survivors include her husband of 40 years, Harold L. Barrett Sr.; her sons, Thomas E. Pruden (Sally) and Mark M. Pruden (Young Mi). She is also survived by Harold’s children, Kirk (Lynn), Elizabeth (Pete) and Tom (Jennie); granddaughters, Katherine and Grace; grandsons, Spencer and Paul; great-granddaughters, Caroline and Laura; many step-grandchildren, many step-great-grandchildren, and many loving extended family and friends. The family extends a special heartfelt thanks to June’s long-time caregiver, Sam.
A memorial service officiated by Pastor Rich Meiser will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Main Street United Methodist Church, 202 Main St. with a visitation to follow. A private burial will take place at Holly Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Main St. United Methodist Church in her name. R.W. Baker & Co.
