Portsmouth man charged with Sunday fatal shooting

A Portsmouth man faces multiple felony charges including second degree murder in connection with a fatal Sunday shooting.
Suffolk Police have arrested Russell Edwards, 57, of Portsmouth, in connection with a homicide that took place Sunday, June 18 in the 6200 block of Apple Street.
The Suffolk 911 Center received a call at 11:03 a.m. for a person being shot inside a residence. When officers arrived, an adult male, age 72, was located suffering from a single gunshot wound. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The victim and the suspect were acquaintances, police said. Edwards fled the scene in a 2000s model red Ford F-150 extended cab pick-up.
Russell is charged with four felonies: second degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a felon and discharge of a firearm within a dwelling house.
Police said Russell is being held without bond at Western Tidewater Regional Jail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and there is no further information available for release.
