After COVID-19 caused cancellations in 2020, 2021, and 2022, the Broken Oar Foundation was finally able to bring back its annual fundraising event this past Saturday, a bass fishing tournament held on the Johnson Farm behind Johnson’s Gardens.

Fishermen showed up in droves, with more than 215 people registering for the tournament.

As a result, the foundation raised over $7,700 for a great cause. All of the money raised went into a fund that benefits the local Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts and other youth organizations.

Since inception, Broken Oar Foundation has donated more than $26,000 to Scouts in need of help to pay for uniforms, summer camp and the like.

The fishing tournament started as a tribute to Thomas J. O’Connor IV and has grown into so much more. BOF members sais he would be elated to see that his memory lives on to benefit the youth getting to take advantage of the outdoors in every way possible.
