16 graduate from JMU at spring ceremonies
A total of 16 Suffolk residents graduated from James Madison University during the May 2023 commencement exercises, seven of the students graduated with honors.
Those graduating with honors are:
- Madeline Bunting, cum laude, bachelor of science degree in biology.
- Michael Newsome, cum laude, bachelor of science degree in computer science.
- Cassie Kozoyed, cum laude, bachelor of science degree in inclusive early childhood education.
- Alexander Stidham, cum laude, bachelor of science degree in public administration.
- Laila Robinson, magna cum laude, bachelor of science degree in biology – BS.
- Aaron Whear, summa cum laude, bachelor of business administration degree in business management.
- Jacquelyn Hendricks, summa cum laude, bachelor of science degree in media arts and design.
Nine additional Suffolk students graduated during JMU’s May 2023 commencement exercises:
- Jacob Hayden, bachelor of science degree in engineering.
- Joshua Savage, bachelor of science degree in engineering.
- Tierra Stamp-Querry, bachelor of science degree in engineering.
- Grace Rowell, bachelor of science degree in general psychology.
- Noa Banks Greene, bachelor of science degree in health sciences.
- Brandon Lassiter, bachelor of arts degree in media arts and design.
- Grady Fitzwater of Suffolk, master of science degree in accounting.
- Morgan Whaley, master of science degree in accounting.
- Paris Eley, bachelor of science degree in general psychology.
Local students named to JMU spring dean’s list
Thirteen Suffolk students attending James Madison University were honored by being named to the spring 2023 semester dean’s list.
Students recognized with the honor are:
- Leah Ballinger, a general psychology major.
- Madeline Bunting, a biology major.
- Olivia Florian, a theater major.
- Brandon Graser, a finance major.
- Anastasia Grund, a kinesiology major.
- Jacob Hayden, an engineering major.
- Michael Laskey, an architectural design major.
- Landon Martino, a political science major.
- Aliya Meston, a health sciences major.
- William Mullin, an engineering major.
- Rory Rockwood, a computer information systems major.
- Joshua Roquemore, an engineering major.
- Jordan Smith, an English major.
Students who earn dean’s list honors must carry at least 12 graded credit hours and earn a grade point average of between 3.5 and 3.899.
Two local students honored at UA for fall term
Two Suffolk students were among those at the University of Alabama named to the president’s list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A’s). These driven students are making waves across UA’s more than 70 undergraduate programs and 12 colleges and schools.
Named to the president’s list were Aria Lawrence and Crystiana McCollum.
The UA dean’s and president’s lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.
Harrell named to spring dean’s honor roll
John Harrell, of Suffolk, was named to the University of Mississippi’s spring 2023 honor roll lists.
Harrell, majoring in general business, was named to the dean’s honor roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.50-3.74.
In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.
Biando named to spring chancellor’s honor roll
Lauren Biando, of Suffolk, was named to the University of Mississippi’s spring 2023 honor roll lists.
Biando, majoring in elementary education, was named to the chancellor’s honor Roll, which is reserved for students who earn a semester grade point average of 3.75-4.00.
“The remarkable students achieving Chancellor’s Honor Roll are among the best and brightest at the University of Mississippi,” said Chancellor Glenn Boyce. “I commend them for their hard work and dedication resulting in their outstanding academic achievements and this well-deserved recognition.”
In order to be eligible for honor roll designation, a student must have completed at least 12 graded hours for the semester and may not be on academic probation during the semester.
Joseph graduates from Cedarville University
Joel Joseph, from Suffolk, graduated from Cedarville University in spring 2023 with a master of science degree in nursing.
Located in southwest Ohio, Cedarville University is an accredited, Christ-centered, Baptist institution with an enrollment of 4,715 undergraduate, graduate, and online students in more than 150 areas of study.
Quincy University releases spring 2023 dean’s list
Quincy University released its Dean’s List for the Spring 2023 semester. Honorees must earn a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 (on a 4.0 scale) to be included in the biannual Dean’s List. In total, 359 students received the honor during the Spring 2023 semester.
Founded in 1860 by Franciscan friars, Quincy University is a small Catholic university emphasizing the sciences, liberal arts and the professions. Quincy University offers undergraduate, graduate and adult education programs integrating practical experience and Franciscan values.
