The Art of Wine, a new gallery exhibition at the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts, opens with a reception and free wine tasting Thursday.
The event runs from 5:30-7 p.m., Thursday, May 25, offering those attending the opportunity to sip a variety of wines from Turnip Sprout Restaurant and explore the new artwork. Wine also is available for purchase by the glass or bottle.
The interactive art opening includes artist Rhona Dawson instructing guests on how to paint their very own decorative wine glass souvenir, according to a Suffolk Center news release.
Wine has been depicted in art for centuries. The Art of Wine allows artists to explore the subject through their unique lenses, in all variations of color from grapes in the field … to the last sip of that unique bottle or glass.
This gallery exhibition features 14 artists, working in a variety of artistic mediums. They are: Regina Combs, Suffolk; Rhona Dawson, Suffolk; Linda Disimone, Carrollton; Rosana Aguilar Greene, Suffolk; Barbara Anne Harris, Suffolk; Carol Heischober, Virginia Beach; Tommy Johnson, Suffolk; Randall Maynard, Chesapeake; John O’Neil III, Chesapeake; Linda Phillips
Suffolk; Glenda Pyles, Virginia Beach; Karen Spaulding, Hampton; Edward Vann, Norfolk; and Sandy Waters, Suffolk.
The Art of Wine exhibition is on display in the center’s award-winning second floor gallery from May 25 through July 8 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Tuesdays through Saturdays. There is no charge for admission and it is open to the public.
