Elwood Road fire damages home, displaces seven

A Monday afternoon residential fire caused major damage displacing seven people.
Suffolk Fire and Rescue responded early Monday afternoon, May 1, to a reported building fire in the 7100 block of Elwood Road. Suffolk Emergency Communications was contacted at 11:58 a.m. and the first unit arrived on scene at 12:04 p.m.
Engine 7 and Medic 7 arrived to find a single-family residential home with smoke and fire showing, according to a department news release. Fire crews performed an aggressive attack on the fire and performed searches for possible occupants, however, all occupants had evacuated on their own.
The residence sustained major fire damage. The fire was marked under control at 12:51 p.m. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians.
The Red Cross is providing assistance to the seven occupants of the home, four adults and three children.
Thirteen units from Fire and Rescue responded to the blaze.
