Hard work, dedication and commitment paid off for the Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter at the 2022-2023 organization’s state leadership conference.
NRHS DECA Students attended the Virginia DECA State Leadership Conference March 3-5 at the Virginia Beach Convention Center.
Virginia DECA is comprised of 200-plus chapters with more than 11,000 members. About 3,500 students attended this conference.
Students competed in individual role plays and/or team competitive events aligned with the national curriculum standards in the marketing, business management and administration career clusters, finance, and hospitality and tourism.
NRHS DECA Chapter members and advisors earned top recognition at the three-day meeting:
- Chapter Recognition and Award: Annual Report Blue Chip: This is the highest award a chapter can receive in this category and must have 975 or more points.
- 2023 Outstanding DECA Advisor: Candace Credle
- 2023 DECA District Advisor: Candace Credle
- 2023 Outstanding DECA Advisor: Karen Perry, Phd.
- 5-Year DECA Advisor Recognition: Renee Parker
- Certificate of Achievement for Participation in Virginia DECA Day activities, Celebrating DECA history and potential.
- 2023 Friend of DECA Recipient: Jamie McLaughlin, Director of Operations Chick-Fil-A, Portsmouth Boulevard. McLaughlin received this award for her support and commitment to helping NRHS students obtain and advance in employment at Chick-Fil-A and for helping our students prepare for state competition by listening and providing feedback on their presentations.
- Annual Report: The “Annual Report” encourages both individual participation and group projects. It is an instructional enrichment project for marketing education programs and DECA chapters. The report is designed for chapters to develop a well-rounded program of work and is based on chapter activities, community efforts, and achievement accompanied with an awards program for chapter recognition at the state level.
