Nansemond River DECA Chapter brings home 11 regional awards

The Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter earned 11 awards at the 2022-2023 District 21 DECA Leadership Competition with the 12 schools in Region 4 participating.
The schools, including NRHS, competed in 27 competitive events that are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism.
The Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter showed up and showed out, club members said in a news release.
The next stop is DECA State Competition in March.
Nansemond River High School DECA Chapter awards are:
- First place, Buying and Merchandising Team Decision, JaKayla Pitt and Dezi Spruill
- First place, Hospitality Service Team Decision Making, Jaylah Richardson and Mikayla Thomas
- First place, Human Resource Management, Tremayne Taylor
- First place, Marketing Management Team Decision-Making, Maria Hill and Phelton Payne
- First place, Travel and Tourism Marketing Team Decision Making, Khamara Gay and Makiyah Jubray
- Second place, Food Marketing Services, Gary Dennis
- Second place, Marketing Management Team Decision-Making, Ciara Rountree and Lauren Taylor
- Second place, Restaurant and Food Service Management, Jasmine Williams
- Second place, Sports and Entertainment Marketing Series, Gavin Satterfield
- Third place, Human Resource Management, Mackenzie McLaughlin
- Third place, Quick Service Restaurant Management, Montae Smith
Teacher Candace Credle and Dr. Karen Perry serve as an NRHS DECA advisors.
