“Lights, Camera, Holiday!” This is the theme for the 2022 Suffolk Holiday Parade, set for 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7.
The parade runs from West Washington Street, down North Main Street and ending at Finney Avenue. This year’s Grandstand is in front of the Suntrust Building on North Main Street.
The route means there are road closures planned beginning Saturday at 5 p.m., city officials said in a news release.
These closures affect southbound vehicular access at Constance Road and North Main Street to Mahan Street. Northbound traffic on North Main Street from Mahan Street to Constance Road remains open. North Main Street from Mahan Street to Fayette Street at Carolina Road is set to be closed for both north and southbound traffic. Also, Washington Street from Commerce Street west to Military Road is going to be closed to all traffic. Prentis Street from West Constance Road to North Main Street also is to be closed to all traffic.
All road closures and detours are going to be posted, and traffic control is set to be in place. All affected roads are expected to reopen by about 9 p.m.
Restricted on-street parking on West Washington Street and North Main Street is also planned from noon to 10 p.m. All restricted on-street parking areas are going to be posted accordingly.
Free parking for the event is available in all city public parking lots, including the Godwin Courthouse parking lot, Commerce Street lot and Market Park parking lot.
Find the best spot to watch the floats, marching bands, and festive vehicles as they make their way down West Washington Street, and turn up North Main Street, with the parade route ending at Finney Avenue.
This year’s Grandstand is in front of the SunTrust Building in the 100 block of North Main Street. Be there to catch the performances of the local bands and groups.
