Suffolk student taken into custody for possession of knife on campus

The report of a weapon on the campus of Southeastern Cooperative Educational Program Suffolk Center led to a lockdown and a 16-year-old being taken into custody.
Suffolk Police are investigating an incident involving a student with a weapon on the campus of SECEP Suffolk Center in the 2300 block of E. Washington Street on Thursday, Oct. 27. Suffolk Emergency Communications received the call at 10:08 a.m., police said in a news release.
Suffolk Police responded to the school after being alerted by Suffolk Public School administrators of a student believed to be in possession of a weapon while on the school campus.
The school was placed on lockdown and searched by Suffolk Police.
The student was promptly located and searched by Suffolk Police and was found to be in possession of a knife. The suspect, a 16-year-old male, was taken into custody without incident. There are no injuries reported.
The building was given the all-clear at 10:21 a.m. Suffolk Police said they are providing enhanced security at the school for the remainder of the day.
The incident remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.
