Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts welcomes the Hurrah Players in Disney’s The Lion King Experience Jr., live on stage at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 15.
Hurrah Players production of Disney’s The Lion King Experience Jr. is a live musical adaptation of the 1994 animated film, bringing the wonderful music and adventures of the Pride Lands to life onstage based on the Broadway production directed by Julie Taymor, music and lyrics by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Pre-show family fun starts at 12:30 p.m. with a Lion King Costume Contest. Children ages 1 -12 years old are encouraged to channel the Lion King spirit by making costumes or masks. Costumes will be judged on creativity, colorful design and continuity to The Lion King theme. In addition to great prizes, families can enjoy pre-show popcorn and drinks, and learn African dance moves with instructor Alecia Edwards.
New for this season, Suffolk Center performances are now “sensory inclusive” — allowing the center to better entertain and serve guests who might have sensory needs or processing issues. The staff has prepared special Hippo themed backpacks for children who may have sensory stimulation needs. They contain headphones and multiple sensory-rich toys to help the child “zone out” from the extractions that may affect their ability to enjoy a performance.
The backpacks may be checked out from the box office during any performance or event. Four are available and after use must be returned to the box office.
Reserve Lion King seats before the performance is sold out by calling the box office at 757-923-2900, online at SuffolkCenter.org or by visiting the Suffolk Center at 110 W. Finney Ave. Tickets are $22 for youth and $28 for adults.
