Nansemond River baseball team explodes in extra innings to advance to state semifinals

Nansemond River’s baseball team busted open a tie game in extra innings, exploding for 11 runs in the top of the eighth inning to beat Hickory 17-9 in the Virginia High School League Class 5 state quarterfinals.
The Warriors will face Glen Allen at 10 a.m. Friday in the state semifinals at Riverside High School in Leesburg. The winner of that game will play in Saturday’s state championship game at Riverside against either Douglas Freeman or Granby.
Cam Bauswell led Nansemond River offensively with five hits. Ayden Stuffel drove in six runs. Chase Magrisi homered.
Stuffel also pitched for the Warriors, allowing four runs on five hits. Cooper Newell, Brandon Walsh, Robert Loper and Ryan Barks also pitched for Nansemond River.
