Cromer promoted to social services director

Harry Cromer has been appointed Suffolk’s director of social services by City Manager Albert S. Moor II.
Cromer had served as assistant director of financial services at the Suffolk Department of Social Services since October 2013 and interim director of social services since January 2021.
Cromer has over 30 years of experience in the human services field, including seven years of working for the Nassau County Department of Social Services in Long Island, New York. After moving to Virginia, Cromer worked for the Newport News Department of Social Services as an intake worker, and over 18 years at the Chesapeake Department of Human Services in various leadership capacities, including benefit programs supervisor and over 13 years as chief benefit programs supervisor.
Cromer earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science degree from South Carolina State College and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Carolina.
