Those looking for extra sweets for their Easter meal can get some homemade goodies while supporting a good cause.
Providence United Methodist Church is hosting an Easter Bake Sale at 9 a.m. on April 16, at 3101 Providence Road. The church is known in the community for its Fall Bazaar, which raises money for charitable organizations. This year the church gave the donation to the Genieve Shelter, which serves those in Suffolk and surrounding communities facing domestic abuse.
Building on the success of the Fall Bazaar, the ladies at the church wanted to use their love of baking again for a new season.
“This is our first year doing this,” said Bobbie Cowan, one of the organizers. “We have a lot of ladies who are good at baking and wanted to give this a try.”
At the sale, guests will find various homemade sweets to enjoy for Easter lunch, a special occasion or just to enjoy. The items for sale will include cakes, pies, candies and more.
Just like with the Fall Bazaar, all money made at this event will be donated to a good cause: local missions in this case.
“It’s something fun to do because many people would want Easter goodies,” said Cowan. “I’d say we specialize in cakes and pies.”
While there will be a variety of options, those interested can place special orders. All orders must be made by April 11 by calling Cowan at 539-9444 or Sue Turner at 539-2820.
