Gwendolyn Mae Hobbs Hendrix, 93, a native of Hobbsville, N.C., and a longtime resident of Suffolk, died Thursday, Feb. 24, 2022, in Columbia, S.C., in Hospice Care at the Rice Estate Lutheran nursing home.
Mrs. Hendrix was preceded in death by her husband, James T. “Jim” Hendrix; her brother Larry C. Hobbs; sister Kathryn H. Ward and parents Harry C. and Edla Hollowell Hobbs.
She is survived by nephews, Jason Hobbs of Efland, N.C. and Gary Ward of Blythewood, S.C., and several other nieces and nephews.
She worked for many years in the peanut brokerage business in Suffolk and retired from O’Connor Co. after 25 years. Mrs. Hendrix enjoyed golf, sewing and painting.
Graveside services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 2 at Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens, 4569 Shoulders Hill Road, by the Rev. David Edgell, associate pastor at First Baptist, where Mrs. Hendrix was a member. R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
