A new-to-Suffolk couple became new parents in the new year.

Macoy John Plageman was born at 1:53 a.m. on Jan. 1, at Chesapeake Regional Medical Center’s BirthPlace to Katie and John Plageman. He weighed six pounds and 12 ounces.

The Plagemans are new to Suffolk, as John Plageman is in the military. They moved to Suffolk from Nevada about a month ago but are both originally from Georgia. The couple is over the moon about the arrival of their baby boy.

“We are super-smitten and obsessed,” said Katie Plageman. “We just talk about how we love him so much and find ourselves just staring at him. Hands down the best day of our lives, and I know my husband would say the same.”

Macoy came a little early, as his original due date was Jan. 15. Plageman joked that she willed him to arrive early, as she told the nurses at her previous appointment that she was going to have both of her boys to kiss on New Year’s Day. Macoy came in on time to help his mom celebrate the new year.

Macoy’s parents are excited to have the opportunity to watch Macoy grow up and share experiences with him. They are a family who loves to do outdoor activities, like fly fish and ride horses, and they are excited to enjoy those experiences with him one day. But, most importantly, Katie Plageman wants to make sure her son knows how loved he is.

“For my husband and I, we want him to experience the love we have for him and want him to have a strong sense of home,” she said. “We just want him healthy with an abundant life and to have the love he deserves and know how long we prayed for him to be ours.”

For now, the Plagemans are soaking in every moment of their new baby in their new home in this new year.

“We are stoked to be parents,” said Katie Plageman. “It’s the best thing on earth. I can’t get over it.”
