Raymond Earl Rountree, 90, of Suffolk passed away on Nov. 12, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents John Montgomery Rountree and Lessie Mae Russell Rountree; brother, Johnnie Melvin Rountree; first wife, Alma Anne Holland Rountree and second wife, Fannie Marie Hardin Rountree.
Raymond was a member of Trinity Christian Church and served as a trustee and building maintenance for as long as he was physically able. Raymond worked for the Coca-Cola Company in Suffolk for more than 35 years delivering smiles and Coca-Cola products from northeastern North Carolina to Ivor. He was referred to as “Red” or the “Coke-man”. Raymond loved horses and laughing. He was happiest when he was surrounded by family and friends. In return, he brought much joy, laughter and happiness to those who surrounded him. He was greatly loved and will truly be missed.
Raymond is survived by nephew, David “Monty” Rountree; great-niece, Mystic Rayne Rountree; great-nephew, Ian David Rountree; Ian’s mother and adopted niece, Laura Perrotti. Raymond is also survived by his adopted family: Marissa Banton, James Banton (Megan), Kasey Banton (AJ), and Larry “Alex” Banton (Kasandra).
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 21, at R.W. Baker & Co. Funeral Home and Crematory, Downtown Suffolk Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Michael Halley with visitation held an hour prior. Burial will follow at Holly Lawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Nansemond Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, P.O.
