Linda Whitfield, 86, passed away at her home in Greenville, S.C. She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Fred, in 2014. She is survived by her six children, Cragin Whitfield, (Anne Marie), Douglas Whitfield (Maureen), Stewart Whitfield (Sherry), Katie Whitfield White (David), Liza Whitfield Buczkowski, and Matthew Whitfield (Tracy); 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Linda was born in St. Louis to Robert A. and Dorothy Curtis Learnard and lived in Little Rock, Arkansas, Baton Rouge and New Orleans, Louisiana, as well as Washington, D.C. She attended Holton Arms College Preparatory School, Sweetbriar College and graduated from George Washington University. She met and married Fred Whitfield, of Suffolk, in December 1957.

Linda and Fred had six children and moved throughout the Southeast during his career with Reynolds Metals. Linda was a homemaker and an active member of the Women’s Club of Suffolk, the Junior Leagues of Richmond, Tampa, Charlotte and Atlanta, and the Windsor Farms Garden Club in Richmond. During her children’s school years, Linda was very active as a scout leader, team mother and even found time to serve as PTA president. Linda retired with her husband in Greenville, South Carolina, and enjoyed visits from her family and friends. She and Fred enjoyed traveling and especially loved their trip to Australia and New Zealand, as well as their annual trips to New England. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be greatly missed.

A private family interment service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 13 in the columbarium at All Saints Catholic Church in Dunwoody, Georgia.
